Tonight I have been watching an episode of
TimeWarp a great program to learn from as they film action and then slow it down to about 500 frames a second. Tonight we watched as people showed various skills from the Las Vegas entertainment. One of them was with fire. Various parts of the showgirls were dipped in a jell, flamable liquid applied and then set on fire. They say that when the jell begins to heat up you need to put the fire out right away. The last thing I just saw was when they coated the bald head completely with the jell and then he allowed the four showgirls around him would shoot fire breathing at him igniting his head. He then faced the camera and they used a fire extenguisher to put him out. There was some concern as the last person who did this was not squeemish about fire but got too hot and ended up with some burns. Now I don't know about you, but that just does not seem to be something on my list of things to do before I die. Why would you seek out or willing accept something that was going to possibly hurt, burn or scar you for life? (In more ways than one) There is a lot to be said about this from a spiritual persective. We often flirt with sin just as these people did with fire. There is something about touching or doing something you know is 'dangerous'. In the end we find that we can not get away from the very thing we yielded to no matter how hard we try. If we were to try and put the flame out ourselves, we would only spread the fire; in this case sin, to other areas of our lives. Praise be to God that He has the extenguisher we need. We do not have to continue to put ourselves at risk because Jesus already did it for us. So the next time you are tempted to 'flirt' with sin, remember that Jesus said he would send what ever we need to be overcomers. Blessings and goodnight.
